SUMMARY:Lab Meeting
DESCRIPTION:<p>Narges Afshordi will present some of her work on children's understanding of dominance and prestige. Narges describes her talk as follows:</p><p style="margin-left: 40px;">" Dominance is an important organizing dimension of the social world for humans as well as other species. There has been much recent interest in infants' and children's understanding of dominance. In one study, Mascaro an Csibra (2012) found that by 15 months, infants expect a character who was dominant in one context to be dominant in a different context. I will talk about a study that focuses on preschoolers (3-5 years) and similarly examines the stability of their dominance inferences across different situations. I will also talk about another study that aims to look at possible cultural differences in cues to prestige between Euro-American and Chinese children. Both studies are during their early stages so I'll look forward to feedback!"</p>
