Giving Back

As researchers working with local communty members at field sites, we strive to give back to the communities that we work with.

Many of our researchers work in collaboration with One Pencil. One Pencil seeks to understand fundamental questions about the way children learn while simultaneously providing critical support to the communities they study. One Pencil supports indigenous populations experiencing increased engagement with market economies and global institutions in Bolivia and southern Africa, and we are committed to helping students within these communities by providing essential resources to facilitate the growth and success of these historically marginalized groups. Read more about One Pencil here.

Our researchers also help local communities independently. Cammie Curtin works with the the Zapotec in Oaxaca, and to help support the community, Cammie funded a field trip for the local primary school to Monte Albán, the archaeological site of an important pre-Columbian Zapotec city. They’ll also visit the planetarium in Oaxaca City. Here they are at Monte Albán!
